The small medioeval village is delightfully laid down on a will 410 high on the right side of the River Cornia. In the village there are two coffee bar, one gorcer's shop, one post office, a consultim room, one small hotel with restaurant - pizzeria, one tennis court and a small park with children games. Other shops are in Serrazzano (7,5 km), Pomarance (25 km) and on the Etruscan Coast from Cecina to the Golfo di Baratti(35 km).

In some areas of the Val di Cecina non-polluting geothermic energy is produced and it is a precious natural resource. The geothermic pipes run across the countryside creating a nearly surreal atmosphere. At Larderello, the world centre of geothermia, it's possible to visit the Museum of the History of the Geothermia.
